Put away your high tech gauges (except your iPhone), and take a trip down the memory lane with Tapes!

Tapes is a fully functional voice recorder/player for your iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad. Yet, it behaves exactly like a tape deck that you had back in the old days. You will be happy to know that all the familiar features and buttons are replicated here:

•Rec, Play, FFwd, Rew, Stop, Pause and Eject
•Volume meter
•Play clock
•Dual speakers
•Realistic cassette tapes

But wait, the iPhone app has other features that your old tape recorder could never have dreamed of:

•Unlimited free tape supply (did we say FREE?)
•Written notes directly on the tapes
•Ultra reliable tape transport (no more tape jams)
•Wi-Fi sync to your computer using FTP that works with any web browsers (no need to download additional sync software)

What are you waiting for? Get your Tapes and start grooving!

*** iPod Touch Users: Please note that iPod Touch (2nd Gen), unlike iPhone, does not have a built-in microphone. In order to record, you will need to purchase an external microphone from the Apple store.

Pros and cons of Tapes app for iPhone and iPad

Tapes app good for

.. it would be easier to use if you could read the buttons. In even the best lit areas, the black lettering is difficult to read. Also, all button icons are hard to see. Comes up short for these two reasons. Five star comes with good definition colour white for both button lettering and icons. SOUND quality is great and other than those two items mentioned I like using this app.
Animations and sound effects are very cool. Well thought out. Even remembers where you left off playing each "tape", nice attention to detail.
Very practical Wish the buttons were a bit bigger like the antique stuff AAA++
Everything works as it should and I really like the functionality of everything, But…I just hate the button colours and font size, Also I cant see the names on the buttons without a magnifying glass. For $1.99 I expected a lot more, If the function names and symbols were white or red on black it would be a lot easier to read on the fly on my iPhone. I wish I had the ability to change the looks to different tape recorders. A variety of skins would be nice.
I just purchased this app and must say I am very pleased with it. As a journalist, I have used various voice recorders with mixed results. This one is simple and straight forward. I like being able to access my recordings via my browser. I would like to be able to choose different Tapes and labels in future versions. But, this app is easily worth the price. Dont let the nostalgic theme of this app discourage you. It is very high tech. Its just what Ive been looking for!
I like this app... But I wish it would wirelessly sync with the Mac app TapeDeck. It appeares that the UIs are curiously the same.?

Some bad moments

Hallo Yesterday i bought your full version App Tapes. But these are my problems: Where are the records saved? The tape vault seems not to work. Also a problem: After finishing the rocording by pushing the stop button, the app closes immeadetly. Please explain what could be wrong what the app? Thank you for your answers Yours faithfully Giuseppe
Supposed to act just like a tape deck. Well on a tape deck you can rewind and record over something you want to correct. This app certainly cannot. Also the buttons are very small and difficult to use. Aside from that its a cool concept.
Perhaps a revision will be better but I found the control keys hard to see and most importantly for me this application would not let me either append to or edit a previous recording. With the "cassette" in place hitting the recording key would completely erase anything already recorded. Also this app isnt yet listed on the developers website, so there may be limited support.
Please dont judge a book by its cover. When I purchased this app, I thought I would be able to rewind/fast foward exactly to where necessary-NOT! Instead it takes you all the way back or foward, nothing in the middle. The recording quality is worse than other free applications out there. Thank God all I spent was 99 cents! It was worth it, just to have the opportunity to warn potential buyers-NOT TO BUY IT!
first of all, this is a great idea. BUT... 1. Say you record a little bit on a tape and want to record more to it later (or better yet, edit something you already recorded), you cant. when you press record again, it deletes the entire tape and starts over. THIS IS NOT LIKE A TAPE DECK; you need the ability to record more material to existing Tapes, and use the transport to move around the recording(s). 2. The sound effects could be SO MUCH BETTER. Make it sound like a real tape deck also. Aside from these 2 flaws, the 1st one being the most significant, this app is a great concept. The graphics are not bad at all.
I loaded version 1.2 on my iPod Touch 16Gb 2nd gen and it : wont record any audio wont rewind wont play If it worked and degrades the audio quality as some of the reviews report for "realism" then it wont be what I want to use.
